2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Specs, Price, Performance

2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Specs, Price, Performance – Although it was an early adopter of gas-electric hybrid technology, Toyota has only just begun to offer all electric vehicles, the 2025 Toyota bZ4X, in its lineup. Beyond Zero 4WD Crossover is the strange name; I called it “the busy forest” to help me remember it. Even though it says otherwise, the two base models are only available with front-wheel drive (FWD).

It was a collaborative effort between Subaru and other companies; Subaru offers the very similar Solterra, which is available with all-wheel drive alone. My bZ4X LE tester costs $51,880 (not including the non-negotiable delivery price of $1,890) while the base model, the FWD-only L, begins at $46,880 (not counting tax incentives). At $56,880 base price, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) XLE may be yours with the $64,640 Technology package. Right now, you can only get your hands on a bZ4X EV in Quebec and British Columbia. 2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Specs

Exterior and Interior

Despite its little stature, the bZ4X offers generous inside space. Its competitors may provide slightly greater legroom in the front and back seats, but such variations are subtle. The front seats are contoured and supportive, and even if the back seats are flatter, passengers will still be comfortable. Only the worst road irregularities can be heard within the cabin, otherwise the ride is very smooth.

The bZ4X EV crossover’s hefty matte-black bodywork is overdone. The 18-inch wheels are standard on all model levels. Featuring a squared-off steering column and an instrument cluster set high, the dashboard is reminiscent of the one in the revamped Toyota Prius. I really like the way the fabric-covered dash looks and feels. The bZ4X EV’s tablet-style display protrudes from the center console, which is clad in glossy black plastic, in contrast to the Prius’s dash-mounted touchscreen. The way it glares back the sun’s rays is completely off-putting.

In the base bZ4X L trim, you’ll get an eight-inch touchscreen, two USB charging ports (Type-A and Type-C), cloth upholstery, automatic temperature control with dual zones, heated mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, and auto-leveling LED headlights. An eight-inch screen was swapped out for a 12.3-inch one in my upgraded LE trim. Other features include motorized tailgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, under-dash radiant leg-and foot warmers, and rain-sensing wipers.

The XLE trim level includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, fabric and imitation leather upholstery, an auto-dimming mirror, and a cargo privacy cover. Plus, it comes with 20-inch wheels, sophisticated parking aid, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, a hands-free tailgate, and more when you choose for the Technology package. 2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Specs

Engine and Performance

The front wheels of the bZ4X L and LE are powered by a single motor that produces 201 horsepower (150 kW) and 196 pound-feet of torque. The gearbox is a single-speed automatic. The Volkswagen ID.4 offers 229 lb-ft of torque but the same amount of horsepower, which is identical to the Subaru Solterra.

With only rear-wheel drive, the 225 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque of the Kia EV6 outperform both of them. Choose the bZ4X with all-wheel drive and its two motors will provide 214 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque.

My tester did what I needed it to, despite being weaker than the AWD model. It jumps to highway speeds quickly, has the courage to pass, and is quick off the mark.

2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Fuel Economy

The bZ4X has a 406 km front-wheel drive (FWD) and 367 km all-wheel-drive (AWD) range rating from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Naturally, that depends on a lot of things, such how often you drive and the weather. The range indicator showed an optimistic 455 km when I was charging it on a sunny day, but it quickly plummeted to 360 km as soon as I put on the air conditioning. As far as I’m aware, it’s the most amount of range loss that has ever been attributed to heating or cooling the cabin of an electric vehicle.

Competitors with two-wheel drive include the Nissan Ariya (348 km), Chevrolet Bolt EUV (397 km), Volkswagen ID.4 (336 or 443 km), and Kia EV6 (373 to 499 km), depending on battery capacity. City, highway, and combined rating efficiency for the bZ4X is 1.8 Le/100 km, 2.2 Le/100 km, and 2.0 Le/100 km, respectively. (It’s within a decimal point of its competitors in terms of liters equivalent, which compares electrical energy to equal gasoline energy.)

2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Safety Features

Even though the bZ4X hasn’t gotten a rating from the NHTSA just yet, it scored a perfect score of “Good” in every IIHS test, including the updated side-impact test that more accurately mimics the effects of being hit by a bigger SUV. It still didn’t win one of the nonprofit’s most prestigious prizes because to its “Poor” headlight grade.

2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Performance

While all new cars are required to have a backup camera, adaptive cruise control, emergency front braking, and lane-keep assist are standard on all trim levels. However, only the LE and XLE come with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning. Emergency rear braking is an additional feature of that premium grade.

2027 Toyota bZ4X EV Price and Release Date

Starting at $46,880 for the L trim and $51,880 for the LE, the bZ4X is available with front-wheel drive. Both the XLE ($56,880) and the XLE Technology ($64,640) are available as all-wheel drive. Prices range from $56,290 to $64,090 for this all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant of Toyota’s Subaru.

Prices for similar two-wheel-drive vehicles range from $42,348 for the Chevrolet Bolt EUV to around $52,500 (not including delivery) for the Nissan Ariya, $49,995 for the Kia EV6, and $48,545 for the Volkswagen ID.4. It didn’t seem like a nearly $52,000 car while I was driving my tester, but electric vehicles aren’t cheap and the 2025 Toyota bZ4X is priced fairly for its niche.
